Everyone is surely aware of the continued "sophisticazation" of traditional QSR offerings. Now comes word that none other than Long John Silvers is rolling out lobster(!) in their current menu offerings.
Dubbed "Buttered Lobster Bites," this preparation promises "real langostino lobster," prepared in a "buttery breading," for the mere price of $2.99.
But wait, there's more!! As the website promises:
"Buttered Lobster Bites are great for on-the-go customers. The Snack Box is portable (it should fit nicely in the drink holder in your car) and Buttered Lobster Bites are perfect for popping while on the road..."
Who could have imagined that there would come a day when you could get quick serve lobster designed for the rigors of your evening commute, all for the low price of $2.99?
langostino lobster = crayfish

NOT SO, Mr. Marine Biologist Derek Danielson. Lobsters and Crayfish are both Astacidea. Langostino are Anomura. In Australia, "Lobster" and "Crayfish" are virtually synonymous, but there is no link between squat lobsters and crayfish or lobsters at all, other than the fact of the misnaming and usage of that name for marketing purposes.

And what is even more misleading is a new Long John Silver ad featuring a supposedly comical character with an exaggerated Maine accent implying that these "prawns" are actually Maine lobster. How misrepresentative can they be without being enjoined by the FTC?

In case it isn't obvious yet, THESE ARE NOT LOBSTER! They are a marine crustacean, but that's about as close to lobster as these things get. Much closer to shrimp or hermit crabs.
