Some innovations are met with much fanfare, generating almost instant buzz among consumers and marketers alike.
Other innovations, such as, say, Dean Kamen's Segway, generate serious initial interest among those in commercial and media circles, yet fall upon deaf ears with the all-mighty consumer.
And then there are those other innovations--the kind that emerge silently. These are the innovations nobody seems to know about or talk about unless some intrepid observer points them out to us. We believe this is one such innovation.
Allow us to introduce the kidnap-proof trunk. While working in south Florida recently, a Hartman Group associate snapped the photo below of the trunk of his rental car--in this case a 2004 Ford Mustang.
While our first hunch suggested this design feature might have been the outcome of litigation involving children trapped while playing inside their parent's automobiles, the adult figure poised mid-stride, after an apparent leap, suggests otherwise.
One wonders why this feature isn't offered as part of a "luxury" personal-safety-package option?
